New writing update for the month of June, 2020. I wanted to start a new series of posts, once a month I’m thinking, to let you know what stories are a part of my current writing journey. All the way from still being jotted down in my notebook with one of my absurd amount of fountain pens, to finally getting published and released!
All inspirational art for any WIPs or pieces coming soon are placeholders for cover art and I have tried to give credit where due. I love using unsplash.com for stock photos. They have an amazing selection of gorgeous pictures from wonderful photographers and if a picture is worth a thousand words, then having a beautiful photo for inspiration can help the writer’s block with at least that many.

It wasn’t so much the freezing cold that had Des in a terrible mood, but that certainly wasn’t helping things. Desmond Collins—Des to everyone except his mother who refused to call him anything other than the wretchedly boring Desmond—stood shaking like a leaf in his black skinny jeans and his pristine-white Dolce and Gabbana parka which was very stylish but upon reflection now, not the best choice when standing on an open tarmac at the end of November.
The cold was one thing, but the minuscule, single-engine airplane that looked as if it was held together with bubblegum and prayers was the nail in the coffin. No one had told him that he was going to have to spend the four-hour flight in that deathtrap. There had to be some kind of mistake.
“Good afternoon!” a voice shouted behind Des, calling over the insistent wind. He spun around and headed toward him was a middle-aged man whose thick, bushy mustache seemed to be making up for his receding hairline that gave away his years. That, and the pot belly that was visible even with his puffy, insulated parka.
“You must be George Dixon.”
“That I am! Pleased to meet you.” He extended his hand and shook Des’, squeezing hard enough that the leather of his plain gloves squeaked against Des’ prized Gucci leather ones with the interlocking ‘G’ embellishment that he had paid extra for.
“Do you got anything warmer than that?” George asked, eyeing him once from head to toe with a curious look.
“I did bring my Burberry rib-knit, wool beanie, but I didn’t want to put it on and messy up my hair. It’s here in my pocket.”
“Yeah, well… You might want to go ahead and put that on. You think it’s cold now, just wait until we’re a few miles off the ground.”
“About that, we’re not flying in that, are we?”
“Of course! Not too many people head up that far north, and the airports up there are all so small. The land is desolate really, for hundreds of miles. Not even the more nature-fanatic tourists bother to go camping out there this time of the year, so there’ll be no one else making this trip for a while. You can’t be bringing a huge jet-liner, especially for just us, huh?” George laughed, a deep chuckle from his massive stomach. He meant well, but Des was in no mood to laugh.
“Let’s get this over with then. I can’t wait to get to the hotel and raid the mini-bar.”
“Alrighty! No time like the present! Hope you don’t have to use the bathroom, son. There isn’t one for a thousand miles.”
Des bit down the groan that almost poured out of him. God, this was going to be a painfully long trip.

Pigeon’s Blood (Working Title)
Estimated Length: Novel/Super Novel (~50-75k words)
Genre: Suspense/Horror/Fantasy, M/M relationship
Teaser:
Ken was sitting on the floor at the foot of his bed. His neat, blond hair was damp from washing but the bangs were getting long and they threatened to hang in his eyes as he read. Right next to him on the floor was the short bookcase Luke kept. The shelves were lined with almost identical leather-bound journals that he had traded from the tanner in town for handy work around his shop. He had journals for just about anything; building plans, shipment receipts, and even quick drawings of the different birds or exotic flowers he found near the jungle. He stepped closer to Ken who looked right at home in his clean night-clothes and was deep in one of Luke’s books.
“Trying to read my diary?”
Ken glanced up at him and tried to keep a smile from creeping onto his face.
“I wanted to see if you wrote anything about me.”
“I see,” Luke said, chuckling. “Well… I wrote a lot about you, but I keep that book under the mattress.”
“Where do you think I found this one?” Ken replied with a smirk.
Luke dropped to his knees and wasted no time cupping the back of Ken’s neck and locking their lips together. The journal fell from Ken’s hands and they flew up to latch onto Luke’s shoulders. The way their lips fit together made a shudder light up his spine.
He pulled away to catch his breath but wrapped his arm around Ken’s back in a desperate hold. The lithe muscles in his back felt hot to the touch under the worn-thin fabric of his loose nightshirt.
“God dammit, I missed you so fucking much,” Luke groaned. He pecked Ken’s lips twice before blazing a wandering line of kisses to the edge of Ken’s smooth jaw towards his delicate neck. He tried to press them as close as possible from their spot on the floor and Ken let out a breathy chuckle as he manhandled him.
“You better have, because I counted every day,” he said.
“Me too.”

—–COMPLETED YET PENDING (All dressed up with nowhere to go… YET!):—–

Moths
Length: Short Story (~17,000 words)
Genre: Erotic Romance, Fantasy, M/M
Teaser:
“Your heart may speak true,” the man said, “but that still changes nothing.”
“My heart?”
“Yes. I can hear it from all the way over here,” he explained. “If I were to lay my hand upon you again, I would be able to hear it as if it was whispering directly in my ear.”
Sven, a handsome young man living with his cousin in a quaint village deep in the woods, is in desperate need of help—of something that folks say only the secretive woman living at the top of the mountain’s path can provide for him. The only problem is, the woman isn’t just a hermit on the edge of town, but supposedly a witch—one who practices deals with the Devil and can perform miraculous feats because of it, but she’s Sven’s only hope.
His idea doesn’t go according to plan however when he walks straight into a trap, his throat at blade’s edge. There is no witch, but instead a young man, Darius, who moves like a shadow and threatens Sven at knife-point to leave. The pair of them reach a dark compromise; Darius will help, but only if Sven dares to assist him with his mysterious, supernatural ritual in the dead of night.
The tasks won’t be easy, or painless, but that won’t stop Sven from saving his cousin’s life. He’ll do whatever it takes. However, the more he gets to know Darius, the more he finds out about the curious, fascinating ability Darius has and the hardship he faces with his ritual. Darius’ secrets begin to unravel and the more they do, the more Sven can’t bring himself to leave…
What do you think? As of now, this one is trapped in the pile of things to edit with nowhere to go. I’m curious though if it sounds interesting to anyone? I’ve been dabbling in more of the fantasy and horror genres and would love to hear what people think about this shorter piece that feels like a gateway into some longer ideas I have in the works like Pigeon’s Blood. Let me know and I might have it ready to download soon, just in time for Halloween!
